A plaque is gifted to the Stroud Teachers’ Centre by an anonymous donor to commemorate the clock’s recent restoration, which reads ‘THE BLACKBOY CLOCK / BUILT IN 1774 / BY JOHN MILES / RESTORED 1977’. There follows much internal discussion between Stroud Town Committee, the County Architect, and the Teachers’ Centre on the placement of the plaque to ensure its readability from the street. The plaque is refixed at least twice on the building over a period of around nine months.
