After three years of work, the Blackboy Clock is restored and reinstalled on the front of the Stroud Teachers’ Centre. The clock's mechanism was repaired by Michael Maltin, whilst the figure was repaired by Pat Conolly, a member of the Guild of Gloucestershire Craftsmen, and repainted by B. M. Durn.
Restoration of the figure costs at least £18 (approximately £102.75 in today’s money), according to an internal Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) memo issued after the Teachers’ Centre had run out of funds to finish the job. It is not known how much the entire restoration of the clock costs.
Another GCC memo sent following the reinstallation says that ‘considerable interest has been shown in the restored Black Boy by visitors to Stroud as well as by local people’.
