Blackboy Clock is removed for restoration
The Blackboy Clock is removed for restoration by former pilot Michael Maltin, who comments that the figure is in ‘rather a sorry state’, with one missing arm and a rotten head. Photos taken by Lionel Walrond, then-curator of Stroud's museum, show the extent of the damage. The clock’s internal mechanisms are described as being in ‘absolutely filthy condition’. This restoration is prompted by the bicentenary of the clock’s assembly by Miles in 1774.
