Blackboy Clock is relocated to a pub on Nelson Street

After watchmaker John Miles’ death, the Blackboy Clock is briefly relocated to a now-defunct pub on Nelson Street in Stroud called the Duke of York, under the tenure of innkeeper John Thornton. Not much is known about this relocation, including its exact dates or where the clock is placed on the site, other than it remains there for ‘several years’.

In 1899, a column in the Stroud News charting local history dates includes an entry that states ‘Black Boy finished’ on 2 May 1834. Possibly written by clerk and local historian Paul Hawkins Fisher under a pseudonym, it is unconfirmed if this was in reference to Miles’ Blackboy Clock and/or to what degree of ‘finish’.
