New Blackboy Clock plaque by Community Representation Taskforce is installed

A new contextualising plaque, co-written by the members of Stroud District Council’s Community Representation Taskforce, is installed on Middle Street opposite Blackboy House. The plaque outlines a brief history of the clock along with the debates surrounding its consultation in 2021, and is presented alongside a map showing a walking route between the clock and the Anti-Slavery Arch.

The accompanying press release includes quotes from Taskforce members Sabrina Pace-Humphreys, Dan Guthrie, and Catherine Braun, leader of Stroud District Council. Guthrie says: "Myself and my fellow Taskforce members hope that this plaque provides a greater context for the history of the Blackboy Clock at street level where previously there was no information available. The plaque going up is a step forward in what we feel is the right direction for what should happen with this item of public statuary in our district but is certainly not the end of what continues to be an ongoing conversation.”
