‘Councillors listen to community over street and building names’

Stroud District Council issues a statement summarising the result of the council meeting and vote of 28 April. The council confirms it will ‘start the process which could lead to the removal of a statue and renaming of a building and street, following concerns raised by residents and a major community consultation’. Due to the complexity of these next steps it publishes a flow diagram laying these out. The statement also includes the line: ‘Recruitment to the review panel and the consultation were widely advertised.’

The street earmarked for being renamed is ‘Blackboys’, in Dursley, which is at a distance of 10 miles from Stroud.
