Dan Guthrie and other members of the Review Panel present their recommendations at a council meeting on 28 April 2022. A £33,500 cost of removing the statue is proposed along with the survey findings and a motion for a task force to continue ‘community education’ and ‘cohesion’. Councillors express concerns at how representative the survey is of the district, at the budget for removal, and at the next steps given the clock’s trust ownership and Historic England’s advice. One councillor advocates that ‘the statue was not in its first home and had been moved previously, it therefore did not need to be the final location for the statue’.

Councillors vote to proceed to further explore removing the clock by 26 votes in favour, 2 against, and 12 abstentions. The vote is in favour of ‘all recommendations’ of the Review Panel.
