Blackboy Clock is recommended for restoration by horologist
The Blackboy Clock is inspected for restoration by T. R. Robinson, technical editor of specialist publication the Horological Journal, who comments that both the dial and the ‘little figure’ need repairing. Robinson reports that, once fixed, the clock would be ‘quite an asset’ to Stroud as a local timepiece and a tourist attraction, and offers to carry out a restoration ‘as soon as opportunity serves and permission is given’. The Stroud News & Journal reports on Robinson’s visit and also notes that ‘at one time an old man was paid a penny a day by the school to wind the Black Boy clock’, a position which is later subsumed into the headteacher’s duties.
