Stroud Town Council gives grant to support Blackboy Clock restoration
Blackboy House’s owners and developers form The Blackboy Clock Trust with the aim of restoring the clock. The trust then makes an application to Stroud Town Council for funds to restore the object.
A quote by horological engineer A. J. Nicholls describes the figure as being in a ‘dilapidated condition’ and estimates a cost of £3,961.75 to repair the clock and restore the ‘popular feature’ to working order for it to ‘give service to the local community’. Stroud Town Council offers £1,500 from Golden Jubilee funding to what it calls an ‘extremely worthwhile project’, adding that if a new plaque is installed to commemorate this, it should be 'at a level easily read by pedestrians'.
