Blackboy Clock is sold by Henry Thornton

Henry Thornton, son of innkeepers John and Joyce Thornton, sells the Blackboy Clock after the death of his mother, in 1844. The provenance of the clock passing from mother to son is outlined in John Thornton’s original will, which also mentions another object within his ownership called the ‘black boy Watch’. The watch is left to John Thornton’s grandson, but its original designer and current whereabouts are now unknown.
